Check the source first

Only open a package if you downloaded it intentionally from this website and its name matches the selected Floatcut version. Do not continue if your system reports known malware, a damaged app, or a file that differs from what you expected.

macOS

Floatcut for macOS comes as a DMG. Open it, copy Floatcut.app to Applications, and start the app from there. Versions 4.0.1 and later are signed and notarized by Apple. The following “Open Anyway” steps apply only to earlier versions, whose release bundles are locally or ad-hoc signed and are not notarized.

  1. Try opening Floatcut once so macOS displays its warning.
  2. If you trust this download, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway for Floatcut.
  3. Confirm the next prompt with Open. Grant Accessibility permission only if you want Floatcut to paste clips automatically; allow Local Network access if you want device synchronization.

Keep Gatekeeper enabled. Apple explains the warning and the Open Anyway option.

Optional for older versions: The third-party app Sentinel can remove the macOS quarantine flag from an individual app through a graphical interface. Use this only for a package you trust; the project is currently on hold. Download Sentinel from the official releases page.

Windows

Floatcut for Windows comes as an x64 ZIP archive. Extract it completely before starting the application from the extracted folder. The main application is currently unsigned. Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may display a reputation warning when you launch it.

  1. Compare the archive name with the version you selected on the download page.
  2. Before extracting, right-click the downloaded ZIP archive and choose Properties. On the General tab, enable Unblock in the Security section, if that option is shown, and confirm with Apply and OK.
  3. Extract the archive completely and start Floatcut from the extracted folder.
  4. If SmartScreen shows an unknown-app warning and you trust the download, use More info and then Run anyway, if those options are offered.
  5. If the warning returns on every launch or starting Floatcut with Windows does not work, close Floatcut and repeat the Properties step directly on Floatcut.exe in the extracted folder. After enabling Unblock, start Floatcut again and re-enable its start-with-Windows option if necessary.
  6. If Smart App Control blocks the app, there is no exception for a single app. Do not turn off system-wide protection just to launch Floatcut.

The Unblock option removes the origin information Windows stores with files downloaded from the internet. Only use it for a file whose source you trust. Microsoft documents this option in its Attachment Manager guidance.

Windows on Arm compatibility

The download offered here is an x64 application rather than a native Arm64 build. Windows 11 on Arm runs unmodified x64 applications through its built-in emulation. Floatcut has been tested successfully on a Windows on Arm device without any observed functional limitations. This compatibility is provided by Windows, so behavior and performance can vary between devices.
